It is an opportunity to exchange experiences, build new collaborations and promote your research results.

The aim of the ISCES 2022 conference is to explore environmental sustainability trends in natural resources management, circular management, and environmental engineering. Conceptual, empirical, and methodological studies as well as country case studies on various topics of sustainable development were presented at the conference. It is expected that the reports and presentations will cover both theoretical, methodological,l and practical aspects of sustainable development and the circular economy.

More than 80 research papers were submitted to the conference, accepted for publication in the IOP Conference Proceedings: Earth and Environmental Science, and have been peer-reviewed through editorial procedures. Andris Natrins, Vice-Chairman of the BA School of Business and Finance Council:

“The ISCES conference is a major event in several respects. The main one, of course, stems from the thematic focus – green and sustainability are a top priority on a global scale. I am pleased and proud that researchers at the BA School of Business and Finance, under the leadership of Professor Dzintra Atstaja, have been consistently developing this in research initiatives and projects of international significance for a long time. The ISCES conference is a testament to this. About the conference that has just taken place, I would like to highlight another aspect of cooperation that is important in times of war or Russian aggression in Ukraine. The BA School of Business and Finance continues the cooperation with Ukrainian colleagues that started a few years ago, considering the support of Ukrainian researchers as its mission, alongside other activities in support of the Ukrainian people affected by the aggression, both in academia and in support of refugee families. This conference continues the joint research activities of Ukrainian scholars at a critical time, through joint scientific publications, professional development, and other exchange activities.

I am very pleased that the international scope of the ISCES conference is expanding to include partners from 34 countries. We very much hope and will do our utmost to bring this community together in person at the BA School of Business and Finance next year.”

Professor at the BA School of Business and Finance, Head of the Sustainability and Efficiency Laboratory, Dr.oec. Dzintra Atstaja:

“I am very pleased and proud that the reputation of the BA School of Business and Finance and its partners have attracted a wide range of stakeholders from all over the world. It is an opportunity to show that the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine have opened up new ways of working and opportunities for effective cooperation and exchange of experience. No force can stop science, research, and cooperation!”

Izmail State University of Humanities (Ukraine), Head of the Department of economics, Accounting, and management, Professor, Dr.oec. Viktor Kovals:

“The importance of the conference, despite the numerous problems in Ukraine, is related to the possibility of such a scientific event to support current research activities in Ukraine, to develop support for contracts through remote work.

I would like to express satisfaction with the results of the conference, note the good organization, the high scientific level of the presentations, as well as the value of such discussions, which allow the exchange of opinions and scientific ideas with colleagues from other educational institutions and research centers.”

Prof. Valentin Molina-Moreno Ph.D. in Economics, Professor, Department of Business Organization-1, University of Granada, Spain.:

“It was a pleasure to participate in this conference. I feel very proud of the organizers. I want to thank you for your solidarity with the people of Ukraine, for your deep commitment to the universities of Ukraine, for your freedom, and for your great sense of responsibility to the academy. I see the appreciation that many professors around the World respect. At this conference, we had many different papers and research on the topic in the context of Ukraine and the affect of certain events. I appreciate what you do and congratulations on that.”

Dr. Nomy Dickman Head of the Evaluation Department at the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine of Bar Ilan University (with which the BA School of Business and Finance has been cooperating for a long time), Israel:

“The Azrieli Faculty is located in Safed, in the north of Israel, and is home to Israel’s 5th medical school which was inaugurated in 2011. We have 38 research groups and 6 Israeli hospitals are affiliated with the Faculty.

Last week we welcomed approximately 140 new medical students as well as graduate degree students in the biomedical and health sciences fields.

It is an honor to be here today and have the opportunity to welcome you to the 2nd International Scientific Conference on Environmental Sustainability in Natural Resources Management.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn about important research that is being implemented in the field, and of course to share knowledge, hopefully developing networks that will lead to future partnerships.

The conference organizers have put together a very interesting and worthwhile program for us.”

Dean of the Faculty of Law, Riga Stradiņš University, professor, dr.iur. Jānis Grasis:

“Latvia is not rich in natural resources, but we also have sand, dolomite, gypsum, clay, and peat. We also have forest resources and, of course, drinking water. According to estimates, Latvia ranks 4th in Europe in terms of drinking water reserves, or approximately 20 000 m3 per capita. It is nature as the capital of the future that is one of the 7 development priorities in Latvia’s sustainable development strategy until 2030. Today we need to think about how to use natural resources wisely, preserving them for future generations.”

The conference included 3 sections for concentrated experience and new knowledge. The forum brought together participants from Latvia, Spain, Israel, Albania, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. More than 300 specialists of various profiles took part in it, and the leading speakers made presentations: Prof. Dr.oec. Dzintra Atstaja (Latvia), Prof. Valentin Molina Moreno (Spain), Dr. Reis Mulita (Albania), Prof. Dr. Brahm Sharma (India), Dr. Dickman Nomy (Israel) and Prof. Dr. Janis Grasis (Latvia). Thanks to the organizers and participants! See you at the next conference and projects!
