On November 3, 2017, BA School of Business and Finance held a conference “Is Business Education Contributing to the Competitiveness of the Latvian Economy? Programmes, Brands, Partnership “, which was organized to mark a 25 year anniversary of BA School of Business and Finance. The conference was a part of a wider conference cycle, affecting the various issues relating to BA School of Business and Finance operational priorities. The purpose of the conference was to initiate discussions about the role and opportunities of business education in Latvia, as well as its link with the economy.
A wide range of experts from various fields took part in the conference: representatives of academic and research institutions, officials from ministries, leading experts of commercial companies, heads of financial institutions, representatives of financial market supervision institutions, economic experts and representatives of several other state and non-governmental institutions. In his presentation Valdis Dombrovskis, Vice-President for the Euro and Social Dialogue, also in charge of Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union, focused on major EU financial issues. Professor, rector Andris Sarnovics, BA School of Business and Finance, Gusts Muzikants, Member of the Board, Lattelecom, Commercial Director, Reinis Berzins, Chairman of the Board, Joint Stock Company “Development Finance Institution Altum” contributed to the conference theme.
Speeches, presentations and discussions of experts highlighted the importance of business education, as well as the most important challenges which business education and higher education in general will face in the future. Conference participants emphasised the improvement of education as a continuous process, because the need for new skills and knowledge is ever changing and thus lifelong learning is gaining more importance.
